Containers with radioactive cobalt have been stolen from a bankrupt Ursus foundry in the eastern city of Lublin. “Seven lead PRJ-20 containers with radioactive cobalt were stolen,” Monika Skotniczna from Poland's State Nuclear Agency told PAP news. The disappearance of the containers was discovered last month during stock taking at the Ursus foundry, it has been revealed. “As long as the cobalt remains in the containers it does not pose a threat,” assured Skotniczna and added that, fortunately, the amount of the stolen cobalt was small and its age advanced. Poland's State Nuclear Agency has already informed radiological institutions in other countries about the theft and a possible risk of radioactive contamination.
