Reports have been coming for neartly a month of unusual numbers of seals, both dead and alive, turning up along Labrador’s north and south coast. These seals were spotted close to shore in Cartwright. There, residents have seen a mixture of seals, dead and alive, come close to shore. Conservation officers have explained the unusual appearance of dead seals as being as result of early births. Seal pups were born as much as three months early as a result of unusually warm weather for the time of year. Warm weather and open waters have also enabled some live seals to get closer to shore.
