Event Description

Forest / Wild Fire in Australia on Wednesday, 29 February, 2012 at 08:01 (08:01 AM) UTC.

A bushfire in Tasmania's Derwent Valley has flared again, with some residents being told they should prepare to leave their homes. The fire near Meadowbank, 50km north west of Hobart, has burnt around 5000 hectares since starting during a heatwave on the weekend. Fire authorities say the blaze is again out of control and residents in its path could be affected this evening. They are urging those in properties nearby to check their bushfire plans or prepare to leave. A helicopter is water-bombing the area and a bulldozer is also being used in an attempt to contain the fire, which has caused a road closure. Fire Services Tasmania says a danger rating of low-moderate is forecast.
