A chemial1 explosion has forced students and staff to evacuate a University of Queensland building. Five fire crews, hazardous materials specialists and scientific officers are at the delivery section of the university's chemical building in St Lucia, in Brisbane's inner-west. The nine-storey building has been evacuated and firefighters in splash suits and breathing apparatus are inside the building. A Department of Community Safety spokeswoman says paramedics are also at the scene but no one was hurt. She says an unidentified chemical leaked this morning and an explosion occurred at 9.20am (AEST). The explosion did not cause a fire, she said.
