A freight train has reportedly derailed Wednesday morning in Taunton, spilling more than 1,800 gallons of fuel. Taunton Fire Chief Timothy Bradshaw said the CSX train engine derailed near Mozzone Blvd., and that there were no injuries. The only people aboard the train were crew members. The derailment was in a wooded area and there is no threat to the public, Bradley said. The front engine of the train derailed, but the rest of the cars remained on the tracks. The cause of the derailment is under investigation. The Taunton Fire Department, Taunton Emergency Management Agency, and the Department of Environmental Protection hazardous materials unit are on scene working to contain the spill. The track is not used for the MBTA Commuter Rail. The track, which is for commercial use only, will be shut down while an investigation takes place.
