At least six persons died and 23 others sustained injuries after a bus fell into the Trishuli River in Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality-3 along the Prithvi Highway in Chitwan district on Wednesday morning. The bus (Lu 2 Kha 291) heading towards Narayangadh from Kathmandu collided head-on with a truck (Na 6 Kha 4972) before plunging about 100 metres into the river, at Fisling, at around 9:15 am today, according to Chitwan District Police Office Chief, Superintendent of Police Deepak Thapa. Subsequently, the ill-fated bus submerged in water killing six passengers aboard on the spot and injuring others who were rescued. It is yet to establish the identities of the passengers, said police. Five of the injured have been rushed to a health institution in Kathmandu while other are sent to a hospital in Bharatpur, informed police. A joint team from the police, Nepal Army and Armed Police Force have been carrying out the rescue efforts at the incident site. The bus had left for Arghakhanchi from Kathmandu at 5:40 am picking up 26 passengers from Balaju.
