Landslide in USA on February 23 2019 02:12 PM (UTC).
The Pali Highway has been declared a disaster area following several landslides that send large boulders and debris raining down onto lanes. Lt. Gov. Josh Green, acting on the governor's behalf, issued an emergency declaration Friday for the thoroughfare. The declaration is aimed at providing funds to address the damage and speed up repairs. State Transportation Department officials have said it could take months to finish work to stabilize hillsides above the Honolulu-bound lanes of the highway. In the meantime, the highway remains partially or fully closed. Green is acting governor as Gov. David Ige is in Washington, D.C. for the National Governors Association meeting.
