Floods and landslides in Sri Lanka have killed at least 25 people while dozens are missing after torrential rain, officials said on Friday, as soldiers fanned out in boats and in helicopters to help with rescue operations. The early rainy season downpours have forced hundreds of people from their homes across the Indian Ocean island. "There are at least five landslides reported in several places in Kaluthara," said police spokesman Priyantha Jayakody, referring to the worst-hit district on the island's west coast. "Rescue operations are still taking place." The disaster management center said 25 people had been killed and 42 were missing.
