The Goldfields has been hit by a freak storm, with some residents reporting "golf-ball sized" hail falling in parts of the region. The wild weather hit the region on Saturday afternoon. "Bloody hell, they're almost the size of golf balls," Al Muir said in a video shared with 7 News. A severe weather warning was issued with heavy rains, hail and damaging winds affecting Kalgoorlie, Norseman, Laverton, Leinster, Leonora and Menzies. A spokesman from the Bureau of Meteorology said winds were expected to reach up to 100km/h. "The storm should ease later tonight, before thunderstorms develop tomorrow east of Kalgoorlie," he said. "This weather is not unusual for this time of year." The Department of Fire Emergency Services is advising residents in the area to find shelter away from trees and power lines, and to stay away from storm water drains, rivers or streams.
