Nearly 60 firefighters were tackling a blaze on the thirteenth floor of a tower block in south London. Smoke could be seen billowing out of the upper floors of an apartment block on Winstanley Road in Battersea. Eight fire engines and 58 firefighters were sent to the scene after the fire broke out just after 1pm on Monday. Part of a thirteenth floor flat was alight, according to the London Fire Brigade. Pictures from the scene showed thick black smoke pouring from the apartment block as firefighters battled to extinguish the flames. Crews from Battersea, Clapham, Wandsworth, Chelsea, Fulham, Tooting, Lambeth, and Brixton fire stations were all in attendance. The brigade's 999 control officers took 25 calls about the fire. The fire was brought under control shortly after 2pm. The cause of the fire is not yet known. It is not yet known if anyone has been injured.
