Flash Flood in USA on April 14 2018 10:19 AM (UTC).
Oahu was hit with heavy rain and massive flooding Friday night. By 9:15 p.m., the thunderstorm that moved through Windward and East Oahu had moved offshore, but the wet weather isn't over just yet. Radar shows another cluster of storms currently north of Maui and Molokai, and headed west. It could possibly move over Oahu at around midnight. Meanwhile, the deluge of rain flooded roads and homes, and triggered power outages in Kailua, Waimanalo, and Hawaii Kai. Vehicles got stuck in water on Kalanianaole Highway in East Oahu. The city said portions of the highway were closed from Aina Haina to Makapuu for most of the evening. Kalakaua Harbottle told us it took him 30 minutes to drive 1.5 miles from Kalani High School to Wailupe Circle. He ultimately spent hours in traffic trying to get home to Waimanalo. Firefighters were inundated with calls from people asking for help after water entered their homes. Hawaiian Electric says a crash on Keolu Drive in Kailua damaged a power pole, triggering an outage that affected 1,500 customers. Crews are working to restore power. HECO says weather caused intermittent outages in Windward Oahu and Honolulu. Lightning may hit poles, causing lights to flicker or power to trip.
