A power outage Monday afternoon that affected about 13,000 JCP and L customers in Howell, Lakewood, Brick and the surrounding area is over. Power was restored on about 5:30 p.m. The outage that stemmed from a unknown problem at a large substation happened at 2:52 p.m. It left Lakewood High School in the dark, forcing district officials to cancel a budget hearing slated for Monday night. JCP and L spokesman Scott Surgeoner said at 5 p.m. that crews had not located the exact source of the problem at the substation. He declined to give the location of the substation, citing general security precautions. In Monmouth County, 7,982 customers in Howell were without power, 140 in Wall and a 16 or fewer in surrounding communities. For news from the courts, scroll to the video above.
