A wildfire burning along the American River is forcing the evacuation of a fairgrounds in Sacramento. The fire broke out about 1 p.m. Thursday south of Cal Expo near Business Interstate 80. People at the fairgrounds, including those attending several events, were being evacuated. Cal Expo is also the site of the annual California State Fair, which has concluded for this year. There were some reports of power outages. Traffic on nearby roads and highways also was slowed by the billowing smoke, though the fire was moving away from Business 80. Sacramento firefighters reported that one person suffered smoke inhalation. Fires in the dry grass and trees along the American River Parkway have been common, including one that threatened Cal Expo on July 4, 2014.
