There has been a large explosion at the Pemex oil facility in the Mexican port city of Coatzacoalcos in the southern state of Veracruz, officials say. At least 3 people have been killed and more than 60 others have been injured. The explosion happened at around 3:15 p.m. CT on Wednesday at the Pajaritos complex near the Coatzacoalcos River, according to the Civil Protection agency in Veracruz. A fire erupted that was brought under control within a few hours. Photos from the scene showed huge plumes of black smoke rising from the site, but details about the exact circumstances of the incident were not immediately known. Governor Javier Duarte confirmed that at least 3 people had been killed and more than 60 others were injured. As a result of the explosion, hundreds of people have been evacuated, but it was not immediately clear whether those evacuated were only workers or also included residents.
