Emergency officials responded Friday morning to reports of an explosion and resulting fire at the Perfetti Van Melle candy factory in Erlanger, Kentucky. The fire broke out just before 3 a.m. at the factory, which is located at 3645 Turfway Rd., fire officials stated. No injuries were initially reported. The multiple-alarm firefight continued through 5 a.m. and an investigation into the cause had not been completed. Turfway Road was closed between Donaldson Highway and O'Hara Road as a result of the fire. An estimated time of reopening for the roadway was unknown.
