A second Australian shark attack in less than two days has left a surfer with an eight-inch gash to his leg and forced the closure of a popular holiday beach. Lee Jonsson, 43, managed to fight off the juvenile great white shark with his surfboard after it bumped him off the board and bit him on the leg. The early morning confrontation with the 8ft shark at Shelley Beach in Ballina, New South Wales, left Mr Jonsson shocked but unaware that he had been injured. It was only when he reached the shore that he noticed the lacerations to his thigh. He was driven to a nearby hospital where he was said to be in a stable condition.
